Born and brought up in one of the most interior hill stations in India, the Idukki District, where avenue for advanced learning and development was the farthest dream due to unfavorable geographic positioning and poor household economy, I had to struggle enormously to attain the professional status and career growth that I am gifted with today.
While philosophy and psychology are the best loved topics that keep me always introspective in all my acts, the mesmeric power of the phenomenon of love and endless beauty of the clandestine universe prompt me to be ever optimistic and progressive. I am fortunate to take birth on a so-called unfortunate date, but I haven’t ever been unfortunate in anything; move over, as I love the other, I am also loved by all and always love to be loved.
Being a professional with 18+ years of industry-specific proven experience and holding India’s very first degree of Doctorate (PhD) in Disaster Management, I am fortunate enough to be acknowledged as one among the very few disaster management experts in the India-International crisis management fraternity. Currently heading the Emergency and Business Continuity Management Department in the third busiest airport in India, the only one of its kind in the Indian Civil Aviation Airport Industry, I got opportunity to be instrumental in revolutionizing the civil aviation contingency and continuity management framework.
In 2010, I was appointed the Divisional Warden of Karnataka Civil Defence Division 22, which comprises of two lakh plus population under the jurisdiction of three Police Stations in the City of Bangalore. I always believe in maintaining equilibrium of quality-quantity, creativity- pragmatism, and input-output. My way of working was recognized and accepted within a short span of time, and I was honored by the Govt. of Karnataka with its prestigious Chief Minister’s award for meritorious service in Civil Defence and Disaster Management in the State of Karnataka.
Knowledge is the Gift of God and it’s to be shared with the next generation; knowledge is the only thing that multiplies when it’s shared. Over the last one decade, I have been representing numerous international conferences in the field of Aviation Emergency Management, Business Continuity Management, Disaster Management, Enterprise Risk Management and Professional Social Work in multiple occasions in various countries viz. Switzerland, Singapore, United Kingdom, Hong Kong, Belgium, Czech Republic, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Rome, the United States of America, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Thailand, and the Royal Nepal.
The platforms given to me in India in diverse capacities viz. mentor of scholars, resource person, key note speaker, expert panelist, and trainer includes ATI (Mysore), NCDC (Nagpur), NIDM (New Delhi), IIM (Bangalore), IAF (Bangalore) and many other Government Institutions, Non-Governmental Organizations, and academic institutions; this is in addition to the numerous national-international conferences and seminars in India where I had been a speaker.
My disaster management career started with the Pratichi (India) Trust, an Organization owned by the Nobel Laureate Prof Amartya Sen in the Super Cyclone affected State of Odisha; followed by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) where I was instrumental for institutionalizing disaster management in India through execution of different Disaster Risk Management pilot projects in the NCT of Delhi, institutionalizing disaster management in the Public Administrative System, and documenting advanced protocols and procedures for formulating the national disaster management framework. Construction and operationalizing the first District Emergency Operation Centre, making an extensive District Disaster Management Plan and various other innovative initiatives in disaster management resulted in my nomination by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (NE Delhi) for the Independence Day Meritorious Award, which was noted by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.
Innovation, uniqueness, creativity and hard work are some of the value systems that always guide me both in my professional and personal lives; the determination and persistence that act as fuel to the fire ablaze the vision in me with supreme clarity. I have been certified as Aviation Emergency Management Expert by the Airport Council International (ACI-Geneva), and certified as Airport Emergency Specialist by the Zurich Airport (Switzerland) in 2007.
It was my privilege to make Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL) the 1st Airport in the Asia-Pacific to get certified in Business Continuity Management Systems (BCMS) under the prestigious British Standard BS-25999:2007; and thereafter adding yet another feather by making it only the 2nd airport in the World to be certified in the widely accepted global business continuity standard-ISO 22301:2012. As a certified Lead Implementer and Lead Auditor for ISO 22301:2012 and BS 25999:2007, it was my privilege to pioneer Business Continuity Management (BCM) in Indian civil aviation history.
I was one of the “International Observers” of the biennial Full-Scale Aviation Emergency Exercise conducted by Hong Kong International Airport in 2008. Moreover, the credit for successful conduct of the first ever Full-scale Aviation Emergency Exercise in Indian Civil Aviation industry and the only mid-night full-scale aircraft emergency exercise in India with an exclusive closure of the active runway belongs to me. I had been instrumental for more than 750 Disaster Management Exercises including the first State Level Earth Quake Disaster Mock Drill in India in the NCT of Delhi.
I am humbled by the recognition and acknowledgement given to me as an authority in aviation emergency management, corporate business continuity management, enterprise risk management, fire and life safety, and natural disaster management.
And last to this series of recognitions came on my way is the BCI India Award 2017 by the Business Continuity Institute, UK under the category “Continuity and Resilience Professional (Private Sector) 2017”. It was yet another acceptance to my professional life that I was shortlisted as one of the 7 nominees to the BCI Global Award 2017, under the same category “Continuity and Resilience Professional (Private Sector) 2017.
I express my gratitude to each and every one of my benefactors and well-wishers who have invested the stainless trust and deepest confidence abundantly in me.
