The number 13 has ever been considered an unlucky number in some countries for the reason which is unknown. If you do a google search to know why this number has got this fate, you can find various justifications. From West to East and South to North, everywhere 13 is given a low profile and un-ceremonial status. Each time when I travel outside India, I try to get a hotel room bearing number 13, but most of the time I am unlucky to get it. Italy is the only exception to this where I got a hotel room bearing number 313.
Is 13 really an unlucky number…? My experience says otherwise. I got luck to come to this World on a 13th where first time it has been proved to me that it’s a lucky number. Each time knowingly or unknowingly when I do some important assignments and gather facts or data, I find a 13 chasing me like a shadow. On one side people say 13 is not good, on the other side as coincident I meet 13 very frequently in my life bringing success, happiness and achievements.
Triskaidekaphobia is a unique word used to say about the paranoia of 13. The seriousness of this phobia was further linked with Friday, means people of certain community will not venture to go out in the dark. The end of the Mayan calendar’s 13th Baktun was superstitiously feared as a harbinger of the apocalyptic phenomenon where end of the world was predicted.
Fear has no caste difference or colour difference. Neither language nor nationality had been a thwarting force to the superstitious believes connected with 13. We are living in a society where launch of Missiles and Rockets as well as commissioning of Super Computers preceded ritualistic way with holy water, breaking coconuts or chanting of mantras and prayers. Rahu’s and Sani’s are deciding the auspicious time to commence a good venture in our planet. To celebrate the phobia of 13 film industry and artists have contributed significantly, where all 13 is the villain.
Curiosity inspired me to learn more about 13. It was fascinating to learn that Christianity has a close relationship with 13. When Jesus Christ had his last supper there were 13 people including Him. The United States was formed out of 13 British Colonies, later they had a national flag with 13 strips of colors. Jewish community always considered 13 as the maturity age of boys. Many iconic figures and world leaders have this number as their birth days and they have highlighted the positive energy emerging from 13.
It has never been an unlucky number to me…! March 13th is my birth day….! the luckiest day of the unlucky…?
